I came as an out-of-state graduate student and was somehow referred to Morgan View since I knew nothing about living in Baltimore. If I could do it over again, I would have never signed the lease; the 11k paid was probably because of it's location to the campus. From the very first day I checked in, I've felt like I was seen as a child. The conditions of the apartment were subpar upon arrival, but I was told I was not able to move in ONE DAY EARLY because the staff was "ensuring that the units were clean and painted." According to staff, you are not allowed to check in before your scheduled time, which makes things inconvenient. My mailbox has been opened WITHOUT the use of a key; after informing staff about the situation (IN AUGUST), the issue has yet to be resolved. Their "exercise facilities" are outdated and broken; instead of trying to fix them, they would rather make sure that non-residents are not entering the room. Their "computer lab" has SELECT working computers and you are not able to print unless you bring your own paper. I have been threatened with fines in order to coerce me into attending meetings where simple common-sense tips are shared. Paying to park should be a crime, especially since there are not enough parking spaces to accommodate everyone IF they chose to pay $125 for a year-long parking pass. Their "lockout" policy makes life inconvenient and laundry prices are ridiculous. My roommate and I have received extra bills: for using the thermostat, having a television plugged in, and for simply cooking food (these are excuses that administration has used as to why we are being charged, followed by patronizing the amount and comparing it to how the "real world is"). To top things off, the area is allegedly "drug free," but I get contact high every time I walk into the building; what is their response? I end up receiving a memo restating that drugs are prohibited (in other words, nothing is being done). I came from being the Head RA of a freshman dorm at my undergrad to feeling as though I am a freshman all over again.Being a resident at MV has been the bane of my existence here in Baltimore, and I would STRONGLY urge others not to reside here until these problems are fixed.
