This company charges $113 for the initial visit, but what was really disturbing was the 300% to 400% markup on a defrost board for my Lennox compressor unit: A1 tried to charge me $354.77 for the part widely available for $90-150. When I asked about the markup, I tried to confirm the part #. I was told the part # was unavailable and was pressured to decide to go forward with the ordering and repair. Once I had researched the part myself, I contacted A1 again (this was the next day) and I GAVE THEM the part # and prices. Only then did, A1 offer to reduce the price by more than half to $168 AND include the defrost thermostat (a $15-$20 value).
This type of price gouging and pressure when the customer is without a heating unit in winter seems unethical and I could not see fit to allow A1 to provide any additional services. A1 also refused to refund any portion of the $113 I paid for a 15 minute service call; Which I partly understand since A1 did provide some service BUT a token partial refund was probably warranted in this case because I had been made to do a lot of extra work that should not have been necessary if A1 was honest and forthright in the initial discussion of the parts pricing.
